La rappeuse MC Lyte, née Lana Michele Moorer le 11 octobre 1971 à Brooklyn à New York aux Etats-Unis, sort son premier album " Lyte as a rock " en 1988. Suivent, un an plus tard, " Eyes on this " puis, en 1991, l'album pop " Act like you know ". Deux ans plus tard, elle revient au rap avec " Ain't no other " qui se caractérise par son parler vrai. MC Lyte enregistre par la suite " Bad as I wanna B " (1996), " Badder than B-fore " et " Seven & seven " (1998).

Having begun her rap career in the early 80s as a breakdancer, she released her first single, "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)," which dealt with a lying boyfriend’s crack addiction, before signing a recording contract with First Priority. Her debut album, Lyte As a Rock, was released in 1988, featuring the previous single and "10% Dis," which targeted her former microphone rival, Antoinette.

This was followed by the releases Eyes on This in 1989 (including "Cappucino"). It spawned the album's first single "Cha Cha Cha", which peaked at #1 on the rap charts. Also featured was "Cappuccino" which is a metaphysical story weaved around a bad cappuccino experience. The "Cappuccino" video was directed by Ric Menello, who also helmed The Beastie Boys', "Fight for Your Right".

Her brothers are Milk Dee and Gizmo, known as Audio Two.
