The Diplomats are a Harlem, New York-based hip hop group who are more commonly known as Dipset. The group was formed in 2002 by founding members Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freeky Zeeky. All member albums are released under Diplomat Records to which Freeky Zeeky is the President and, Cam'ron and Jim Jones are Co-CEO's. From its roots in Harlem, New York, The Diplomats have expanded to other countries and feature artists from the United Kingdom and Canada.
The group were originally signed to Roc-A-Fella Records from 2002 to 2004, but are now signed to their own label, Diplomat Records. Each individual artist, however is signed to different record labels.
Sometimes there is some confusion over the nature of The Diplomats vs. DipSet. The Diplomats is the rap group that is composed of the following members: Cam'Ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey, Duke Da God, Hell Rell, J.R. Writer, 40 Cal, Katt Williams and the DipSkate duo. S.A.S. and Jha Jha are former Diplomats, but are still affiliated. DJ Moe Sticky, Chubbie Baby, Jay Bezel, and A-Mafia are considered second tier Diplomats.
On the other hand, DipSet is the movement that includes The Diplomats as well as all affiliate groups and artists. This includes Byrd Gang (NOE, the deceased Stack Bundles, and Mel Matrix); Em-State (Mike Street, Eaze Money, K'von Pradaz, & Touche); Skull Gang (Jay Bezel, Lil' Jah); Writer's Block (Show-Gunna, Fred Money, DJ Plat, etc.); Purple City (Shiest Bubz, Un Kasa, Agallah, etc.); The Senate (Taj Mahal, Knight, Thump Mandoza, etc.); Eurogang (Rephan, S.A.S., etc.); and 145th Taliban (Luca Brazi, Star-Crimes, etc.).
On November 9, 2007, Jha Jha announced in an interview that she is leaving the Dipset movement and The Diplomats crew. "In all actuality, I was never Dipset son, never signed to Dipset, we thought we could make something work but nothing as far as a legal binding agreement transpired out of it. We had creative differences so I decided the best thing for my career was to part ways." - she stated. Sixshot also asked if the Dipset fans still showed her love and respect to what she answered: "Yes they do, but like I said I'm not a part of DipSet nor the Diplomats anymore".
S.A.S. has also recently parted ways with the Dipset family, but is still affiliated with Juelz Santana.
On December 17, 2007, Jim Jones said to sixshot.com that even though there are controversies between the Dipset members (Jim Jones vs. Cam'ron, Hell Rell & 40 Cal.), they plan to bring back The Diplomats after a year break. Sixshot.com stated, "Jones, who ha
